On 1 July 2000, the First Home Owners Grant was introduced to offset the effects of GST on home ownership. The First Home Owners Grant is a national program funded by the states and territories and administered under their own legislation.
Since its introduction, the First Home Owners Grant has varied in benefit depending on the economic situation on both a national and a state level.
Generally, under the First Home Owners Grant program, a one-off benefit is payable to first home owners that satisfy all the eligibility criteria. Eligibility criteria may also apply to the properties that the first home owners are intending to purchase.
